Gimme a Combo and a Wireless Access Point: For Here
In a somewhat unconventional partnership, Intel Corporation and McDonald's Corporation announced on Tuesday that they will partner to bring wireless access to some McDonald's restaurants. Initially, Intel will provide high-speed wireless Internet access (Wi-Fi) in ten McDonald's restaurants located in Manhattan. Intel is providing the Wi-Fi to promote its new Centrino technology, which includes a new processor and chipset and a Wi-Fi transceiver capable of sending data up to 200 times faster than dial-up. As part of the promotion, for the next three months customers can get a free hour of wireless Internet access with the purchase of a combo meal. Beyond the first free hour, the next online hour is $3.00 US - or free with the purchase of another combo meal. McDonald's announced that by year-end it will have Wi-Fi available in hundreds of restaurants across the U.S.
