Giant sunspot monitored
Scientists are monitoring the largest sunspot to appear on the sun in nine years. Experts believe that sunspot 9169, 11 times greater in area than the Earth's surface, harbors the potential to project powerful x-class solar flares capable of disrupting communications and energy networks. Thus far, however, it has been "remarkably quiet."
