More GeForce GTX 480, GTX 470 Details Leaked

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

Web source reveals supposed TDP, SP count and pricing for the upcoming Nvidia "Fermi" graphics cards.

Website VR-Zone claims to have received what are supposedly the final specifications for the upcoming Nvidia GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 GPUs.

The site lists the following information:

GeForce GTX 480 : 512 SP, 384-bit, 295W TDP, US$499

GeForce GTX 470 : 448 SP, 320-bit, 225W TDP, US$349

Internal benchmarks reveal that GeForce GTX 470 is some 5-10% faster than Radeon HD 5850 and similiar [sic] for GeForce GTX 480 over the Radeon HD 5870.

Also found on VR-Zone's forums is a picture from Turkish website DonanimHaber of what is purported to be the first Nvidia-made picture of the GeForce GTX 480 card:

Nvidia reminds us once again to stay tuned for the official unveil of the GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 on the evening of March 26.

So, 500 bucks for a 480 that has the same performance than a 5870 that costs 100 bucks less? Yeah, i can see Nvidia taking the market by storm. Oh, wait...

What's really worrying is that TDP, that's awfully high for something that matches the 5870, Nvidia seems to have lost in being green (oh the irony)

I am so glad I bought a 5850, I thought I may have made a mistake. I have overclocked it from 725Mhz (gpu) and 1000Mhz (memory) to 900Mhz (gpu) and 1200Mhz (memory) and it runs cool and realiably. For all the hype, Nvidia's new product line is well below performance wise what I thought they would have offered.

not nearly as sexy as the batmobile design. Na, no boner like I got with the 5870.

Holy scorching heatsinks batman! A TDP of 295W, that's the same as a 5970! nVidia have a long way to go... and they haven;t even arrived yet :p

This sort of reminds me of the problems ATi were having years back, remember the 2900XT? to hot, to power hungry and not enough power, seems Nvidia is going to struggle, I can see them having to slash prices within a month or two.

For Nvidia to come with a directX 11 card this late after ATi it needed to be something special, at least a 25% increase on overall power over and above the corresponding cards from ATI, 5 - 10 % for a power hungry, reportedly very hot card isn't going to cut the mustard. Of course Nvidia fanboys will still rush to buy it, but most sensible people will shun it completely, and if ATI slash the prices of the 5870/5850 Nvidia are in trouble. It is also possible that ATI will release the 6 series within six months

I see troubled times ahead for Nvidia

Seconded. Let's WAIT for the reviews. I'm hopeful of this being quite a good card. I can then sell my 9800 gx2 monster for a cheap ish 925. yay

It's just a rumour, but if it's true, I really feel sorry for Nvidia. ATI managed to bring far more power with the same TDP through the 5970, or you could get a 5870 a lot cheaper than a 480 and still enjoy similar performance.

If this is reality, ATI won't even have to slash its prices to be competitive...

I'm holding on to my 9800 GT for a while I guess.

um,the geforce 480 is 250w tdp NOT 295w. Follow the link, l2read. It says the next 4xx card (geforce 485 SC +gtx) will be 512 cores at 295w and even then its still just a rumor.
