Geek Squad testing out stores inside of Fedex/Kinkos
Richfield (MN) - We are used to seeing Geek Squad agents inside of Best Buy stores, but the company is now trying out locations inside dozens of Fedex/Kinkos locations. According to a Best Buy representative, "fully functional" Geek Squad precints are operating inside of Fedex stores in Indianapolis Indiana and Charlotte North Carolina. Representatives were tight-lipped about whether this pilot program, informally dubbed "Project Xerox", would eventually expand nationwide.
Currently 13 Fedex stores in Indianapolis and 9 stores in Charlotte have Geek Squad precincts. People having trouble with their computers can bring them in for service, "just like any other regular Geek Squad location", according to Best Buy representatives.
The Geek Squad is a computer support company known for its black and white cars and short-sleeve and tie wearing employees. The company was started in the Minneapolis area in 1994 and was purchased by Best Buy a few years ago. Since then, the Squad has expanded to all Best Buy stores and there are also a few stand-alone Geek Squad stores.
