The SC-HMX10 was announced earlier this month, then promptly "unannounced" by Samsung, when the company refused to provide any additional information and stated that all initial specs were subject to change. So it is not surprise that there is little information about the SC-HMX10. If released, the SC-HMX10 will be the first HD Camcorder offered by Samsung, with a 4GB internal flash drive, and a SD slot for additional memory. One interesting spec is that the SC-HMX10 can record in 1080i or 720p resolution. The expected release date is September 2007.

Panasonic HDC-SD1* (SDHC Memory)

Along with the HDC-DX1, the HDC-SD1 was introduced in January 2007 and both are Panasonic's first HD camcorder offerings. They will feature 3-CCD configurations and a 13Mbps data rate. The HDC-SD1 is unique in that it uses SD memory and AVCHD compression. The HDC-SD1 has features an HDMI connection, 3.0" LCD screen, and a still photo flash. However, the HDC-SD1 is missing an electronic viewfinder and accessory shoe, which is included in the HDC-DX1. Expected release is March, 2007.

Sony HDR-SR1 (30G Internal Hard Drive)

Released last October, the HDR-SR1 was the first high-definition hard drive consumer camcorder. Like Sony's DVD HD camcorders, the HDR-SR1 uses AVCHD compression with a resolution of 1440 x 1080 interlaced. The HDR-SR1 also features a large 3.5" LCD and 30GB of internal hard drive space, which equates to four hours of high-definition video. The HDR-SR1 has some useful features including a manual control ring, a mic input, and a headphone jack. There are currently no other hard drive based HD camcorders, but JVC will soon release a 60GB HD model.
