GE unveils digital camera family

Las Vegas (NV) - General Imaging, a subsidiary of General Electric (GE), today introduced eight digital cameras at the Photo Marketing Association’s annual conference and tradeshow in Las Vegas.

It is the first time that GE, which may best known Americans as brand for kitchen appliances, is offering digital cameras. GE’s products cover everything from the entry-level to the "pro-sumer" segment, offering various form-factors and resolutions ranging from 7 to 8 megapixels. The prices for each model have not been determined yet, GE said, but the company expects its cameras to start at about $150 and top out at about $400.

On the lower will be the A-series with models offering a 3x optical zoom and 7 and 8 megapixel resolutions as well as a basic feature set that includes a 2.5" display, a 2.5x zoom, an image stabilizer and ISO support up to 1600. The E-series will offer 8 megapixels a 5x zoom as well as a 3" display.

The compact G-series aims to appeal to those consumers who are looking for a credit-card-sized camera and brings along 7 megapixel resolution and a 2.5" display. The flagship model will be the X1, which carries a larger lens and a 12x optical zoom. The X1 takes pictures with a resolution of up to 8 megapixels.

All new GE cameras are expected to be available in May. The company will also offer a 4x6 photo printer. The P1 supports a print resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi and promises to print three-color ink photos within 105 seconds.
