World of Warcraft Burning Crusade sets one-month sales record
Blizzard Entertainment has announced that the World of Warcraft Burning Crusade expansion pack has sold 3.5 million copies in the month following the January 16th launch. If it were counted as a complete game, this would be a new one month sales record.
Blizzard tracked sales worldwide and found that 1.9 million copies were sold in North America while Europeans bought 1.6 million copies. While 3.5 million copies sounds impressive, Blizzard’s largest customers, namely players in Asia, have yet to buy the expansion pack.
Blizzard is localizing the expansion pack into Chinese for players in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. The company says it plans on releasing the expansion pack in those areas as soon as the localization is complete.
The Burning Crusade also set a single-day sales record by selling 2.4 million copies in the first 24 hours of release.
