Gateway Tips 3.06 GHz PC Plans
Gateway Inc. released details of its plans to incorporate Intel's 3.06 GHz Pentium 4 inside two PCs in advance of Intel's launch on Thursday.
Gateway will ship the new chip, which incorporates Intel's hyperthreading technology, into the 700XL and limited-edition 500XL desktop PCs. Prices will range from $1,099 without monitor to just under $3,500, when combined with a 19" LCD display.
Intel's latest processor employs hyperthreading, in which one HT-enabled chip simulates two physical processors to more efficiently process data. AMD executives have said they believe Intel's OEMs will simplify the advertising message, claiming the new chip is the equivalent of two processors in one.
Gateway intends to bring the hyperthreading technology front-and-center in its ad campaigns, a company spokesmwoman said. "Gateway is heavily advertising this," she said. "Any time you see 3 GHz, you'll see HT technology."
