Gateway says adios, Amiga

PC maker Gateway has sold the Amiga trademark and leftover computer systems to Amino Development for an undisclosed amount.

The Maple Valley, Wash.-based Amina could not be reached about its plans for Amiga, but in a prepared statement, president Bill McEwen - a former Amiga executive - said the sale offers the chance to "finish the job that was started 15 years ago."

Last September, Gateway announced it was scrapping plans to develop a new Amiga machine and redefined the company as a software subsidiary. That led devoted fans of the Amiga platform to launch an effort to develop their own Amiga-like computer that is backward compatible with older versions of the Amiga operating system.
