Gateway releases 17" notebook for retail

Poway (CA) - Gateway's product machine is on a roll these days and expanded once again its retail offering with a new performance notebook that houses a 17" display. The company also offers new 15" models with AMD's Athlon 64, and Intel's Pentium M and Celeron M processors.
Gateway's first ever notebook to be offered with a 17" screen in retail stores is the model 8510GZ. The device come sin one standard configuration that includes an ATI X700 graphics chip with 64 MByte of memory, 512 MByte DDR2 memory, a 100 GByte harddrive as well as Wi-Fi capability and a DVD burner. Priced at $1450, the notebook comes with a Pentium M 740 (1.73 GHz) processor.
While Gateway continues to rely on Intel's Centrino platform for its products focused on mobility and stays away from AMD's competing Turion processor, the system builder chooses AMD processors for its retail performance notebooks. Another example for this strategy is the new 7510GX, a 15.4" screen model that targets the desktop replacement market. The device integrates an Athlon 64 3700+ processor in combination with an ATI X600 graphics chip with 128 MByte memory, 1 GByte system memory, a 100 GByte harddrive and a DVD burner. The 7510GX is offered at $1400.
There are also a three new entry-level models in the firm's 6000-series that range from $750 to about $1100 and come with Celeron M or Pentium M processors.
