As the price of the mildly-accelerated Radeon HD 7950 Boost cards drop close to their reference-class predecessors, they start looking like a better value between AMD's Radeon HD 7870 LE and Nvidia's GeForce GTX 670. The allure is that you get more performance without the need to overclock manually and void your warranty coverage.

Best PCIe Card For ~£300:

GeForce GTX 670

The GeForce GTX 670 is a battle-hardened contender. Offering performance slightly below the Radeon HD 7970 and a lower price to match, this was one of our favorite cards right when it launched. It remains a cool, quiet, and attractive option today.

In essence, you're looking at a Radeon HD 7950 with one less compute unit and a 256-bit memory bus (cut down from 386 bits).

    You mean 384 bits.

If it wouldn't be for that inconsistent frame latencies, AMD would be the way to go.
