Crematorium to offer live webcasts of funerals

by - source: Tom's Hardware

A crematorium in Britain has announced that it will offer a pay-per-view service for family and friends of the deceased party.

Understanding that a lot of us know what it’s like to not be able to make it to the service when someone we know has passed away, Southamption crematorium will offer relatives the option of having the service broadcated live on the internet for people who couldn’t make it to the funeral.

From tomorrow, the crematorium will have a digital camera set up in the corner to disreetly film the service. For £75 the family will receive a username and password, which they can then pass onto anyone wants to see the service from another part of the world.

We liked the idea of this at the beginning because we can understand the advantage of being able to watch a funeral as it happens halfway across the planet. What we’re not so keen on is that they also offer DVDs of funerals for £50 and audio recordings for £25. Watching it as it happens is one thing but there’s something about watching it later that seems a little morbid.

We also think that it might look a little strange in your DVD collection . . .
