Func Industries 1030: The Customizable Mousepad

When people think of a mousepad, they often think about a boring square cloth that is either a solid color or maybe a favorite picture. Well, the mousepad that arrived at our offices was far from that. Instead, the pad incorporated some interesting and downright envious features.

First up to bat is the Func Surface1030 archetype. When we started having a look at it, the first thing we did was head over to the Func website to start the new customization process, which the company offers for its products. You can have it delivered with your favorite graphics. The process itself was quite easy and did not require any real artistic or technical knowledge.

While most people do not see the need for custom mousepads, we realize a mousepad is not just a surface for the rodent on your desk. By having a custom mousepad you are sending a message to people that happen to see it. You are saying "check out what I have to say."

Func has realized that clans, teams, businesses and any other group of people wish to have a visual presence on something they use everyday. Well, the first thing I noticed when I received the pad was that it looks awesome! Both sides of the pad are black, with the Tom's Hardware logo plastered on them. I first believed the photo would be grainy or unrecognizable, but I have to say the picture looks dead on perfect.

A frame comes as a base on which the pad sits in. Func does this for two reasons: First it gives the user the ability to use either the rough or the smooth side by allowing fast and easy switching, and second it allows for the stick pads to never be on the surface. After using this pad first hand for gaming I have to say that it is quite convenient when I can easily switch surfaces depending on game and game play.

Overall I am quite pleased with this mousepad and have to say that feature for feature this mouse pad has everything I want on it. One last interesting note is something you rarely ever see on mousepads: a serial numbes. Well, all three sample mouse pads we received came with individual serial number stickers! It is the little touches that really contribute on making a product stand out, especially when there are just smorgasbords of similar products on the market.
