Fujitsu Takes Hard Drives on the Road
Tough hard drives seem to be all the rage nowadays and to take its place within the category, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. just launched the MHW2040AC Parallel ATA (PATA) mobile hard disk drive (HDD) for extreme environments. Fujitsu’s navigation series HDDs feature a storage capacity of 40GB, with temperature, shock and vibration resilience. Fujitsu says the navigation series hard drives are an ideal option for outdoor environments with a temperature range of -30 degrees C to 85 degrees C. It’s intended uses include a range of outdoor applications, such as ATMs, point-of-sale (POS) Systems, auto-ticketing machines, and automotive GPS devices. The MHW2040AC series will ship in the second quarter of 2007. The 40 GB HDD has a rotational Speed of 4200 RPM, a PATA (ATA-7) Interface, 8 MB buffer, typical track to track seek time of 1.5 ms, typical idle power consumption of 0.7 W, ambient Temperature Tolerance (2 versions) of -30 degrees C to 85 degrees C and -20 degrees C to 80 degrees C, typical acoustic (Idle) of 1.5 bels, and operating shock of 300 G (2ms).
