Fujitsu's 160GB 2.5" 7200 RPM HDD
Once upon a time, small hard drives were slow and had limited capacity. Fujitsu is working to remedy that situation. The company has announced the launch of its MHW2160BJ series mobile hard disk drives (HDDs). The newest Fujitsu products feature storage capacities of up to 160GB at 7200RPM. This is also the third product family Fujitsu has developed using perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR). The MHW2160BJ series uses a SATA 3.0Gb/sec interface. The MHW2160BJ series will begin shipping in second quarter 2007. With the introduction of the 7200RPM product, Fujitsu now offers a portfolio of notebook hard disk drives featuring capacity points up to 300GB and spindle speeds from 4200RPM to 7200RPM. Specifications for the MHW2160BJ hard disk drive series are 80GB/120GB/160GB capacity, a rotational speed of 7200 RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/sec & 1.5Gb/sec, buffer to host Transfer Rate of 300MB/sec max, disk to buffer transfer rate of 102.8MB/sec max, (160GB) read/write seek time is 10.5/12.5 ms typical, track to track seek time is 1.5ms typical, idle power consumption is 0.8 W typical, acoustic (idle) is 2.5 bels typical, operating shock is 300G (2ms), and its cache size is 8MB.
