Fujifilm's FinePix 2800 Zoom

I swore to myself that I would just proceed with business as usual despite the tragedies we've seen this week. To be honest, working has been good therapy. It's kept me away from the TV for a while each day and let me think about things other than friends and family in NY and the DC areas who thankfully escaped injury. Tom's already got a statement on the home page that pretty much sums up how we all feel, so I won't go on repeating the sorrow and pain we're feeling for the victims and our anger at what has happened. What made me slip this little aside in was that I was going to write a lead to this story that said something like "summer isn't over yet. Get out, enjoy the sunshine and take along a shiny new camera." (It would have been more polished than that of course.) At first, I thought the idea seemed a little inappropriate considering what's been going on. But you know what? Summer isn't over. Enjoy what you can despite the tragedies, with or without a shiny new camera. Enjoying life is what freedom's all about. `Nuff said. It's my opinion that world news belongs on the news sites who can better serve your needs. Here, I'll stick to hardware and hopefully give you a little diversion to take your mind off the world's troubles. Damn, I almost made it all week with the "business as usual" idea. Sorry about that. Now on to diversions.
If you do get a chance to get out and smell the roses, maybe you'll want to take pictures of them. One option for you shutter bugs in the crowd is the Fuji FinePix 2800 Zoom, the company's latest mid-range digital camera. The 2800 Zoom is equipped with Fujifilm's Advanced Color Technology and a two megapixel CCD, and can produce 4x6, 5x7, and 8x10" prints. It also has a 6x optical zoom lens, which gives you the same zooming power that can be found on Fujifilm's FinePix 6900 Zoom digital camera. The camera is fully automatic, and lets you transfer images to your computer via USB. The FinePix 2800 Zoom can attach voice notes to pictures and record video with sound, and can also can operate as a PC-cam for computer-to-computer video conferencing. The FinePix 2800 Zoom measures 3.7" W x 3.0" H x 2.8" D and weighs 9.5 ounces without batteries. Bundled accessories include a 16MB SmartMedia storage card, four AA Alkaline batteries, a shoulder strap, and USB and video cables. In addition to Fujifilm's FinePixViewer, other bundled software includes Fujifilm's DP Editor and Adobe PhotoDeluxe 4.0. Available in October 2001, the FinePix 2800 Zoom will be priced at $449.
