Free office software from Sun
Sun Microsystems plans to offer a software suite similar to the popular Microsoft Office software for free to anyone who wants it, the company said.
Star Office runs on Linux and Sun's Solaris operating system, as well as Windows. The program was developed by software maker Star Division, which Sun acquired earlier this month.
Sun also plans free giveaways of StarPortal, an upcoming version of the software suite that runs on a central server and can be accessed by everything from laptops and Palm Pilots to cell phones and TV set-top boxes.
