Fred Thompson hits online scene in a big way
Los Angeles (CA) - While every presidential candidate has opened up a presence on the World Wide Web, Fred Thompson has been the most active recently.
Though Thompson has not officially signed the paperwork to declare his bid as a Republican candidate for 2008, pollsters have been including him for several months.
The politician-turned-actor is in third place in many polls, behind former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani and Arizona Senator John McCain.
Even though the actual election is more than a year away, the 2008 presidential battle is already making the 2004 run look antiquated because of the online presence the new election is taking.
However, most of the candidates don’t even run their online profiles. They outsource those to bloggers, volunteers, and official campaign teams. Thompson, on the other hand, appears to have a sincere predilection for online campaigning.
According to Reuters, Thompson has been actively blogging over the past few months. He has also been contributing to various conservative websites, something rarely done by individual politicians.
Talking about the proposed immigration bill backed by John McCain and President Bush, Thompson writes, "No matter how much lipstick Washington tries to slap onto this legislative pig, it’s not going to win any beauty contests," in a response to an online blog entry.
Despite not even being in the race, Thompson has also posted an online video responding to attacks that have been made by Michael Moore about his political future.
Next month, the cyber election era will continue its full swing with the first presidential debate to be hosted by both CNN and YouTube.
