i was thinking am i being bottlenecked i have e2160 @1.8 ghz stock/2gb dddrII 667 kingston ram/xfx gforce 9800 gt 512mb so is my video card lossing perfomance because of my slow cpu ?

Yes.
Which motherboard do you have? It is quite likely you could cange the CPU for something faster without changing the moherboard as well.
The RAM is OK.
Before you start spending, do some housekeeping first. It`s surprising how much faster a system an be made to run by clearing out all the junk, updting drivers, and defragmenting the hard drive.
And a virus/malware sweep does n`t hurt either.

i have a E2160(800Mhz FSB) cpu overclocek to 3Ghz
4 gig ram(800mhz)
650 W- power supply
8500GT - VGA

do you think that my system will bottleneck if i install the 9800GTX+ instead of the 8500??

pls reply back i really need answers.

I think if your CPU was running stock then yes I think itmight hold back a 9800GTX+. However two cores running @ 3Ghz, i think you'll be fine.

Anything above 2.4GHz is fine for the 9800GT.

Why does everyone over use the term "bottleneck"? There is a bottleneck of sorts in EVERY PC. When you load a game, your CPU's L1 cache is bottlenecked by the L2 cache, which is bottlenecked by the L3 cache, which is bottlenecked by the RAM, which is bottlenecked by the hard drive. You can not get away from it.

Yes, your PC is not performing as well as it would with a faster CPU, or memory, or better chipset, or blah blah. I would suggest overclocking your CPU, its free.

Of course it will, but you should still upgrade your video card, cause it will still rock compared to your 8500. It's not like its not going to perform well. It is just it will perform better with a faster CPU.

Dear Lord, that is a MONSTER, does it spit fire with you get to close to it? haha

I've used the thermalright Ultra-120 for my last 2 CPU's and I love it:

Just get a good ol trusty Arctic Cooler Freezer Pro 7. It's like the best bang for the buck cooler you can get. If you don't believe me just look a the 3046 review on newegg. I used to have one and it rocked.

What model/specs does your power supply have? if its any sort of an ok 650W it will be fine. a 9800gt doesn't need 650w at all, especially with your current system.

By the way, just to throw it out there. You can get an HD4830 for less than a 9800GT and it, for the most part, out performs the 9800gt.

PS. Tell your friend he doesn't know what he is talking about. What is his reason that you should not buy it?

Your friend is right. But it should still be able to power a 9800GTX+.

You would be fine with that PSU and a 9800GTX+ it will give you a sweet boost. I'd lean toward a 4870 though for your rig.

Technically it will bottleneck. Realistically, not it won't bottleneck, since the difference in games would be 2-3 frames.
