Ok so I built a new computer, and have been having a problem with constant freezing, and not responding from a lot of programs, especially windows explorer. It started with an error message when I was booting up that said DES is turned off, please use application to turn on again. I uninstalled the dynamic energy saver application but that doesnt seem to be the problem. I tried updating the bios from f6 to f7 but that didn't help. It also will not shut down properly, when it gets to the screen that says windows is shutting down it just hangs there. My specs are:

Hmmmm... I'm fairly stumped - all looks OK to me, with, perhaps, the exception of
CPU EIST Function.........................: [Enabled]
try that disabled; you will probably want VT off as well, just for efficiency's sake, unless you're actually using one of the MS Virtualization products - but I've NEVER heard of that causing a run-time problem...

I will try that. I reinstalled windows again and so far everything is alright but it was the first time for the first few hours so who knows. I do remember reading something about the large size seagate hardrives failing. Was there a fix for this, should I update the firmware for the hard drive or not?

@OP:

1. Increase RAM voltage to 1.9-2.0. Since you are populating all 4 sockets, more voltage is usually needed.

2. DO NOT INSTALL DES. This is one of the main things tat cause crashes and all kinds of random problems. I have said this many times but people still install it. People who do not have DES installed have very stable systems.

Mythbuntu is an OS that can record TV programs. You can install XBMC on it and play all of the most popular video formats. Linux has a number of video players besides XBMC -- mplayer, ffmpeg, xine, and even Boxee. Linux prefers Nvidia video cards for playing video.
