Reformat? Only thing i've got left.
OK, this may work. Its tricky and a tad risky (watch your temps) http://www.driverheaven.net/articles.php?articleid=123 This is a tool that allows desktop drivers to be altered to mobile drivers. It may work for you, and certainly will open up more options for you. You may try it if you want, especially if currently this may be your only solution. Just be careful
to frozenlead:
When i got this laptop 2 weeks ago,the first thing i did was that i reinstalled VISTA again.
to jaydee:
I have installed Desktop Drivers too from laptopvideo2go.
You have to download the driver and then download a MODED INI from the site and replace it with the original one.
I have used the 2 Dells stock drivers, Nvidia Desktop driver and finally the new NVIDIA driver for notebooks.
and btw,i downloaded the latest BIOS (A09) from DELLs site but i realized that my laptop had this BIOS for default.
Guys i found what is the problem
I was playing COD4 and suddenly the color of almots everything, for example the doors went black, grass went yellow....
Its MY GPU,I HAVE A FAULTY GPU!!!!
toldya
I hope you can mail it to your uncle, and he can do the rest. RMA long distance. I hope this isnt some of the bad soldering on nVidias mobile gpus. Sorry to hear it
Well i played again but it was fine, but it doesnt mean that its fine because it will happen again soon.
Also i cant send it to my uncle for 3 reasons:
1_Posting costs alot from sending here to UK
2_If my uncle gets it and it was faulty again then what?
3_It takes alot of time
Dell uses a proprietary socket, if you can pick a card up from Ebay or something.
The alternative is what tho? If the gpu gets worse, no comp altogether. Have it fixed locally for how much? Id just pump as much air at it as possible, and hope it holds up til youre done with uni, and then take your options.
Ebay is not availabe in IRAN.
Also can u explaing more jaydee? i didnt get u ? u say i must put it in a cool place?
Cool and get as much air to it as possible, and when shutting down, turn outside fan ffn it. If its the mobile gpu problem weve heard about, its the heat/cool down problems. So, while running, dont let it heat up at all, if you can. Then, let it cool down slowly
Well here we are in summer and its hot here but as i said my temps arent bad because many other users have this temps too, they are normal.
Thing is, heating and cooling down may ruin your card. Im not sure this is the problem, but its reacting like it. If you have a fan, use it. Also, like was said, lift it off the table somehow, to get more airflow. Then let it cool down when youre done gaming, or at anytime actually, sloooowly.
I used to make small boxes that can go under notebooks with dry ice compartments in them to cool down intakes. If you have access to dry ice, you can try that. Make sure you insulate the ice well, though, and don't give direct contact from air-ice...you don't need air THAT cold going into a notebook. Condensation is bad.
Just a thought.
Other than that, you can always prop the notebook up like he said. Sometimes raising the notebook up and using cardboard to extend the back down can improve temps, as it prevents convection currents from flowing exhaust air into the intakes again.
Have you thought about removing one GPU and disabling SLI?
No i havent removed one card,i really dont want because i dont have a warranty here and if anything goes wrong, then what? also i paid for this laptop because of its 2x8800MGTX not 1 only
And the worst thing happened.
I wanted to play COD4 multiplayer and when the map loaded the screen went black and instead of coming back to the game,it said"DirectX has encountered an error" and the game closed. just like with all other drivers.
Something funny happened.
When i want to join a game with XFIRE it gives me the DX error but when i go in the game and join a server there its fine.
Also i cant do PS anymore,it freezes alot and has problems.
I have put my laptop in a sale-site,i have to sell the laptop i always dreamed of having
Sounds like 1 card is bad, and going to multiplayer/single card mode fixes it
How can u be sure?
Also going to MP/SP doesnt fix it,as i said i have FPS drops
Well, If you find the problem GPU, you can remove it and use the laptop with just one (trust me, one isn't bad at all), until you can pick up an extra one off the web somewhere, possibly dell could give you one...
I don't know who would buy the notebook off you.
I'm sorry Maz. This just sucks. I feel really bad.
Well first of all i wont remove one of the GPUs because i am not sure that only one GPU has problems, also i cant find a 8800MGTX here,so i cant buy it
Guess what
Today i launched the game and wanted to play COD4 in a server(i didnt use XFIRE,i closed it)and it again gave me the DX error.
So u see i am not sure if its only one of the cards.
Worse.
At firs i couldnt play smoothly @ 1920x1200 so i lower the res to 1600x1200 and now i cant play @ 1600x1200 so i lower it to 1280x1024
Maziar, you are slowly burning your GPUs.
Either change the GFX cards or send that laptop to repair.
99% of probability that the you have a couple of faulty GPUs.
Yeah thats what i thought
( and i cant do anything
(
I had similar problem with my new HD4870 - it would crash every few seconds saying that the driver crashed and has recovered. The card performed well although, it never struggled but it was crashing a lot. However the weird thing was that I could play COD4 without crashing. All other games would crash but COD4. After few days trying almost everything and anything I choose to RMA and they have replaced the old card with a new one. Maybe that's the way to go.
Have you tried to install different OS? I've tried mine with Vista 64 and Xp 32 and it behaved same way...
Maziar, you can buy your replacement GFX cards from Turkey. Or you can RMA to DELL Turkey. They'd accept it.
It's cheaper than sending to UK. You just need a proof of purchase and official guarantee documents.
I have checked, XPS M1730 is officially sold in Turkey, so you can send there for RMA. As far as I know, there's no customs stuff between Iran and Turkey. Probably it's the fastest and cheapest way you can do.
Well the problem is the "Postal service" issue in IRAN,for example its happened alot that i send something and the person never receives it or someone send something to me and i dont receive it,so i cant risk
Send via some Cargo company. Not through postal services. I know it's more expensive but hey, it isn't as expensive as the notebook itself.
That option isnt avaialbe here
only postal services
Well, you could go on a road trip...

I have read somewhere that you guys have sent a rocket carrying a satelite recently
. Don't tell me you don't have cargo companies
We have cargo companies but not for doing this stuff, for sending something we only have Postal Services.
Maziar,
http://www.dhl.co.ir/publish/ir/en.high.html
You can check them. They can take it to Turkey and back. Don't whin. I'm sure that in Iran, there are even some Turkish cargo delivery companies.
I see thanks
Well i have E-mailed DELL and i am waiting for their response,i have to see what will they say.
its clearly the GPU is overheating and it just crash completely down to the driver level.it happened to my desktop before.i lower the speed and it worked fine. but i guess its not possible on a laptop.
lower the speed of what?
lower the speed of the GPU of course.
Downclock the GPU to work fine ? i didnt buy this to downclock its GPU.well if i dont receive an answer from DELL,i will send it to my uncle with DHL POST i think.
I FINALLY FOUND THE THREAD!!HURRAY!
cant you just send it back to Dell under warranty?dont they have free extended warranty on their top of line computers?
I am waiting for their response for my E-mail,if they dont respond then i may send it.
i guess thats the bad thing about no physical store.
i can confirm my card was way to hot for a long time cause of the wrong powersuply they putted in.. now i have the same problem on my 8800 gts
but it aint hot anymore but in every game i play driver stopped working and recovered.. i have 3 weeks left in insurance time ill better be fast
so i can confirm it is a broken card also i used driver cleaner and tried serveral different drivers... but i have a dual boot system never used the vista boot anymore but i tried now.. it always worked with gaming but now i got the same message driver stopped working while i never changed anything
regards
barry
I have been running two 19inch samsung flat screens on a dell inspiron 530. I used a NVDIA 8400 series graphic card. I have just added 2 more monitors. Another NVIDIA 8400 card and a 650 watt power supply. Everything worked fine at first. But last night I did get that error message "display driver stopped and has been recovered" several times. I have 2GB ram. I am attempting to add another 1GB. I added the extra power supply to keep things cool. Any fixes out there?! Thank you...

Most go into sleep mode which presumably saves power and the printer starts more quickly than if it runs through the test routines usual when first powering up. I always turn my printer off after use -- but then I don't do much printing.
