Had to buy another Power supply to give it the 2-6 pin connectors the HD 4870 requires. Looks like my Budget card cost me a 100 more bucks for an adequate PSU.

I'd hope you bought a PSU that will last you at least a few gpu upgrades and not just one to "get you by"

Some things are very worth buying quality for futureproofing, and power supply is one of them

I thought about that. But i didnt go crazy and buy something dramatic, i got the Corsair 650W PSU model TX650W. Dont know if anything is upgrade proof. But i got what i needed for a while.
Ive been using the 380 watt Antec for about 6 years. Its still fine other then it doesnt have what i need for this card. I dont plan to run SLI or crossfire, 1 good card is all i have ever needed. I game less and less now that I am in my mid 30's

That 650 should last you thru several single card upgrades. Looks like your all set. Good gaming

So I got the GPU in the mail today. I decided to give it a try before the new PSU comes tomorrow. Says it requires 500W PSU and i checked my current one and its 480W. I have a problem! I am stuck in an endless boot cycle. I uninstalled the previous drivers, installed the new card, turned the computer on and it starts to boot in VGA mode and then half way through it reboots and does it over and over.
Is there something I am missing here?
I have a 650W PSU coming tomorrow but figured 20W wasnt going to break the bank. Also I have BOTH 6 pin connectors, 1 is an adapter with 2 molex connectors and te other is the standard 6 pin from the PSU.

Any suggestions? I followed the directions and this hasnt ever happened to me and this has me stumped.

You likely don't have enough power on your 12v rail. Its not just about watts, its amperage.

Wait until you get a qualifying PSU and then make a final call.

How can it be heating up your case? All the air is going out the back, being its a sealed dual slot design?

The case isnt real hot 30c, but the actual Card is HOT! And whatever its touching is acting like a heat sink so its heat soaking the board and anything connected to it. If i can increase the fan speed on the card to cool the actual card down or water cool everything.

I had to just show hidden files in the options menu, was wondering why the paths were not making any sense. Fan sounds like a Jet turbine at 65%, got it at 35% and its still audible. 23% is default but it def needs to be faster then that due to the heat
