Im afraid that If I buy the GTX280, I will never utilize its power, and my CPU will bottleneck it.

Exile- Kreia what are you Jedi or Sith?

Kreia- Does it matter? Of course it does; such titles allow us to rip the galaxy into two halves: light and dark, good and bad. Perhaps I am neither, and I hold both as what they really are: pieces to a puzzle.

Seems like a Fudzillla wannabe, but has little first hand info.
The two middle links are repeats of other misconceptions.

Anywhoo, we'll see, right now even his own informatin says on unknown speed/spec hardware and with unknown apps, not very credible.  :heink:

You can always upgrade your CPU. You can also get a better monitor and play at higher resolutions.

I'm bottlenecked right now with a 17" CRT and I'm forced to wait till fall for a new CPU and 24" LCD. So, I'm bottlenecked with a soon to be lowly 3870x2 (well compared to the 4870 and 4870x2).

Guess what? Even with that bottleneck, the performance beats my old Nvidia 405 chipset motherboard and 7600gs. If this is being bottlenecked, I'm all for it.

BAH. I'm still waiting for REAL benchmarks, REAL performance numbers, REAL prices at retailers and of course REAL drivers.

Not profit maximizing, and if the performance figures are even just 25/50% boost over HD3870, the $229 figure is extremely low. And IMO the only reason to do that would be insanely good yields and the determination to explode market share by detroying the value of all other products including their own, which still makes no sense to me.

Didn't they report earlier on Tom's Hardware that they were getting really good yields? I don't know if they're 'insanely' good, but I remember reading something about how the yields were higher than expected.

Yeah they mentioned that early, but I meant insanely good, because that's kinda what you'd need to make this strategy work, huge numbers and constant to make that work. Because truly anything like that for $229 would destroy huge swaths of products/SKUs for both companies. So demand would be enormous, and you'd want to capitalize on it, otherwise you'd have unsatisfied demand, which means your price is too low.

Any shortages that last more than 2 week IMO means you priced them too low.

You basically want to price them so you sell all you have, but don't have too many people left wanting. Anywhoo, based on DOS' pic it does look like it's price closer to what I'd expect, complete with the built in 'sale/discount' $50 as well.

I think USD$ 229 to 250 for RV770XT is really make sense for ATI to increase the market share, otherwise the sales volume of their new cards would be little; honestly if they are going to sell RV770XT over USD$300 I may check if the actual performance of GTX280 could outperforms 50% over the RV770XT.

Nah, still doesn't make sense, especially after confirmation that the Pro was going to be above $229.

If the XT were $230-250, then the GTX would need to sell for about $350, which isn't going to happen either.

I suspect we see the GTX280 at $499+ which puts it in the same comparative range as the 770XT.
