Hi guys, I just put together a pc from an e8400 & ECS G31T combo deal. System works fine, but runs quite a bit slower than other similar system with 3dmark 06 and Sandra. When I check cpu-z, it shows the cpu running at 2.0 ghz with multiplier of x6. This number does not change regardless of what load I put on the system. Even at 100% cpu usage.

Now, I tried disabling C1E and Intel Speedsteps in the bios, it's still shows at 2.0 ghz
In the bios, the multiplier is set at x9.

So any thoughts?

btw, I run this pc with Corsair 2gb pc6400 c5 x2

toss the ecs or resell it
you can not get enough voltage to oc properly

you want to keep the speed step on and let the multipler float from 6 to 9

runs orthos prime 95 or just open a bunch of browsers with cpuz open and you see the mutlipler jump

hmm thats funny. when i installed my e8400 for the frist time on my gigabyte x38 board, it started at 2 ghz. i had to oc it just to get it to normal speeds.

What is the front side bus set at ? It should be 333 at X9

You may want to check to see if there is a bios update for your motherboards.

Check the temps with Core Temp to make sure it's not throttling due to over temp.

@dragonslayer, I did run orthos and prime95, multiplier stays the same at x6.
@houston, Bus is 333, effective FSB is 1333
@erocker, gonna flash tomorrow and see if anything change
@zorg, my cores run quite cool actually, around 55 under 100% load.

Min.should run at 6X333=2.4GHz With C1E enabled
Update Bios and leave all voltages on Auto

do you run vista??? if u do you could check if you have enabled power saving or if it is on full performance. u find it in the control panel somewhere......

Um I am sorry but 6x333=2.4GHz? I am sorry but it doesn't. 6x333=2GHz. I have a Q6600 on a 1333FSB and when idle its 2GHz, 6x333, and when under load 3GHz 9x333.

To the OP, BIOS update and then set the VCore volatge to the stock voltage. If not I suggest taking the ECS board and tieing it to the back of your car and going 100+MPH and not looking back. Then get a decent mobo like Asus or Gigabyte.

Thanks, Zorg. Every now and then, I'm tempted to use ECS in a cheap build, but a post like that is a good reminder of their proper use.

Well, thanks to the people who suggested BIOS flash. It's now running at 3ghz like it should and I got a 30% increase in both 3dmark and Sandra score. I guess this board didn't wanted to be dragged behind a car after all. =)

cause my proc FSB is set to 400
it idles at 6X400=2.4 GHz

I wasn't specifically slamming ECS, although I would never use them, I'm a mobo snob. I was just saying that's what I like to do with mobos that fail.

I'll try it tonight... which bios update did you download? I have the exact same problem with the exact same hardware. I'm assuming this was the fry's deal with the ECS-G33T-M ?
