It's just, I hear that a lot of programs don't work on vista and I don't feel like getting stuck because some stupid OS can't run it...
But I'll really lose advantage when going XP?

You should be able to rum 99% of all software on XP. Unless you MUST use DX10 go XP or if they are Vista only games (ie Halo 2 grrr....)

^The other way around. 99% of software that works on Vista works on XP.

I think I am going with xp unless someone really doesnt recommend to do that...
