It doesnt NEED that tahts jstu what you are told so theres not any chanfe of their reccomendations destroying your computer. most high end but nto enthusiast computers consume like 300 - 400watts. 7900GTX needed like 100watt but GX2 needed just 130, so theres not at all much reason to assume this will need a ton of power.

 


Probably just over 150watt.

That's pretty conservative, especially for the overclocked models.

The comparisons with power consumption between the 7900GTX/7950GX2 and the 8800GTS/9800GX2 may not be the greatest. The 7950GX2 used mobile GPUs while the 9800GX2 is rumoured to be using the normal desktop version of the 8800GTS G92 (or perhaps 9800GTX if they are indeed identical other than clockrates) but at differing clockspeeds. The mobile GPUs required much less power compared to their desktop counterparts.

Never know, NVIDIA may pull a fast one on us and mimic the previous iteration of this product.

I was gonna get a PSU with 3x6pin and 3x8pin :

This for SLI and one day maybe 3way SLI.

But now I see the 9800GTX has 2x6pin and not 1x6pin and 1x8pin:

On the PSU site it says the 8 pin connectors are downward compatible but what does that mean? the 8 pins won't fit over the 6pins of the gtx looking at the pic's. There is too much plastic in the way on the side. Any idea's?
