What's the price supposed to be on the Q9300 anyway?

$266 in quanities of 1000 from Intel (i.e. Dell, HP, Newegg, etc. cost). Markup should put it in the $300 range initially, and should level out at ~$270-275 when demand dies down and supply increases.

I won't be upgrading for the 2-3 years, and I plan to use ABIT IP35-E board with 800MHz RAM and stock cooling. Will I be able to clock Q6600 over 3 GHz and paired with 9600GT, is it a good buy, the whole rig costing some 750 EUR (the processor itself is 255€ here in Bosnia).
I plan to use it for gaming, recording TV shows, and Office and webdesign

Hi, I own an E2180 dual core which i think it sucks! I also have 4gb 800mhz ddr2 ram. A couple of days ago I owned an 8600gt which ran 125fps on Call of Duty 4 with minimal graphics, but lately I upgraded to a Gainward 8800gt 1gb memory and 950mhz+memory clock and 650+ core, now i am able to rum Cod 4 at max graphics except AA at 60fps! but this gets lower in smoke! i expected much more form this vga, i personally played on a lower performance Gainward 8800gt, and d performance was superb! it held 125fps constantly at max graphics inc. AA!! It had a Q9300! I also tried reducing the graphics but the fps never exceeded the 300! On the Q9300 it exceeded the 800fps and couldnt beeleive my eyes! Now i decided to upgrade and am highly confused between an E8400 or a Q6600!! Apart from that i have a problem with the fsb oc. as in i dunno the exact numbers to have a gd overclock and the ratio with which to overclock! Can anyone help me????? Thanks:S:S:S

Think of it like this:

4 heads are better than 2 heads am I wrong?

4 heads are only better than 2 heads if the program supports 4 heads.

So...

2 heads at 3Ghz (obviously not OC) is better than 2 heads at 2.2Ghz...

However...

4 heads at 2.2Ghz is better than 2 heads at 3Ghz if the program supports 4 heads...

Get it...?

This is the improvement estimate btw...

2 cores working in parallel:

[core clock] + [core clock] * 30% = [about the estimated GHZ]

4 cores in parallel:

[core clock] + [core clock] + [core clock] + [core clock] * 60% = [about the estimated GHZ]

Uhhh, no, that's not how it works actually. Bad example. There's hardly anything out there that supports quad cores, just a few programs.

What you were seeing in those benchmarks is simple. Games scale more from oc's but not as much from having more cache. Apps gain more from this and that's basically it. The benchmark differences are similar to what you would see comparing the core 2 duo's also.

I just bought a new computer with the E6850 instead of the Q6600. I choose this because I didn't fell the need for those 2 "backup" processors, and I would much rather have 2 very-fast cores instead of 4 medium-fast cores.

You see, I already had an 2 core - 2,4 gHz AMD processor and I wanted to fell a difference with my new computer. So now I'm running the E6850 at 3,6 gHz with no problems and I couldn't do that with a Q6600, because it generates twice as much heat. (I could probally only get it to 3,00 gHz.)

The Dual core I better for gaming and 'big' software, because most games/programs can only take advantage of 1 or 2 cores. So if you want a quad core, then you must consider if you need that ekstra power for running several programs at one time.

But I have to say, that I'm good at keeping my computer clean of software I don't need, so I don't have the need of those "backup" processors.

Hope this was helpfull :)

YOU CANT EVEN SPELL RIGHT. :p
