Yeah, i'm sure it isn't the video card...used my old 8800gts in it and it did the same thing. It seems to me that the board itself is bad. Hopefully my Evga that is on the way will work properly right out of the box.

Thanks for all of the insight! Hopefully everyone has better luck with it than me :)

::chuckles.:: yeah, that kinda sucks. EVGA 780i? I had the xfx version and hit 3.6 no problem. You'll have to do the simple VDroop pencil mod.

Yup, the 780i again. One of my coworkers swears by Evga. It will be my first product outside of Asus...my tried and true brand except for this one exception :)

Interesting enough, the new bios revision allowed me to OC past 400 FSB! (502 from 401.)

Yippie!

Now my saundra tests beat the QX7700 Ref processor!

So thats a Plus, its only at 3.650, 1621 QDR. I didn't adjust the voltage yet to the processor, so my Low VID q6600 gets more than 3.6 on 1.312 volts! That is always a plus!

I will test more tomorrow. Just updated to the bios a few ago. After a few bonkers Bios need to change junk, all seems well!!

Later ye all!

omg this is a massive thread.... a question lupi if i may? why did you choose the 780i over the EVGA 750i FTW edition? did you want the extra SATA ports or gigabit ethernet? or perhaps 3 way sli lol? cause if ya don't want any of them, the 750i FTW will OC like a dream, and its cheaper!! check this out, 10 second Q6600 OC to 3.6GHz 100% stable!! omg im ordering one of them like soon...
http://www.guru3d.com/article/evga [...] in-review/ that is one hell of a review!!

Oh, I have a 750i already. (P5N-D)

I just gotta have a little bit of everything.

Plus new release boards are fun to play with, because you run into all sorts of problems! And I rather enjoy learning about such things.

Also, since you may not know this, he is using a LOW VID q6600 in there. You go try your Retail 1.3000 or higher and see how easy it is. His is 1.2375
And that is on the low end. 1.2000 - 1.3250

So good luck when you order it!

Lupi you are very well versed with the PN572-T and I am wondering if you can offer me some guidance on what the heck is wrong with my board. I got the PN572 and a Q9300 this week and it's probably the most difficulty I've ever faced with a computer. All I was looking to do was run everything as set from the factory, I haven't even begun to step into the realm of OC'ing.

I did luck out and got Vista to install, but the system still freezes after about 20 mins of running. Each reboot after that gives me about 5-10 mins of run time before freezing. It seems to be something thermal that affects the length of time the computer will stay on before freezing. Out of the box, the system would lock up whether I was in the BIOS or trying to install vista. I set the RAM voltage to 1.8 and now it runs fine in BIOS, but still locks up after booting. At this point I'm not exactly sure what to do anymore except pack it up and send it back for a replacement. My system set up is:

Intel Core2 Q9300 2.5 GHz
PN572-T with BIOS version 301
2x ASUS 8800 GTS 640MB
2x Corsair XMS PC6400 DDR2 (800) 5-5-5-18
Power supply Antec 650W

Sure, we can try a few things before you do that.

Don't get me wrong. It was a very hard board to get stable.

Flash the Bios to 502 first!

And then please tell me you have AIM!

Or MSN!

After you flash, we will begin!

Also, list the VID of your processor, please?

This will be fun, as you have a multi locked processor, so its' OC is all on the mother board.

Hehe, nice choice. One of the hardest boards I have ever faced!

Okay I just flashed to 502 and now I can do nothing, the system gives me about 30secs before it freezes.

VID?!? I'm not sure what that is. So I'll give you everything it has on the box.

Oh yeah my AIM is flyboy2101

Go in and set the VTT to 1.18 in the Bios and save fast, before it freezes. Save and re start.

Dunno if it is the same for these quads.

1.18 was not available, lowest setting was 1.20, changed it to that and still getting the same performance.

Now change the GTL Vref to + 50 Mv.

Make sure your Ram settings are correct!

Dont see you on AIM.

Hehehe, just got an updated 3d mark score just over 18k now.

Stabilizing a higher processor over clock, 415 FSB on the thing for 3735 on a Q6700 using the x 9 Multiplier.

Hopefully I can cure my restart without an error during prime small fft thing!

:)

Damn, woke to a frozen Comp! Re testing with new setting, got well over 4 hours Prime stable at 415.2 FSB, 415 froze. Ram in sync at 830.5 Mhz 4-4-3-15.

Almost there, half way and then some!!

Did you get your system fixed? I had a similar issue with mine. Tried installing Vista 32bit, Vista 64bit, and Windows XP professional. All failed. Finally I was able to install Windows Vista Ultimate 64 once I found that one of the ram sticks was faulty. Flashed to the latest bios and everything is fine. Cossair is replacing the ram sticks for free, PC8500 1066 Dominator.

I was going to ask you Lupi what do you reccomend for the Q9300? I hear it's hard to overclock and I still have yet to find a good example of one. I've seen a few hitting 3.7ghz. I really just want to hit 3-3.2ghz with my system. I have enough power and cooling for it.

Thanks for any advice/assistance.

-Wes

I wouldn't say that it is hard to over clock, per see, but it will be FSB reliant. So its all in the Mobo, because of its locked Multiplier.

Unfortunately, this board is HARD to over clock! Maybe it will be better with the newer chips, like yours!

First off, you'll need to run either Real Temp, or Core Temp with eist disabled, and list what either say your VID is.

That will let me know where your starting voltage is.

Come on, 1.1000 and not anything over 1.2000!

You may have to do alot of tinkering on your own. I tinkered out the q6x00 series junk, some poor other guy had the board, but an e8400, and he had to tinker out good settings while using mine as a basis.

You may need to do the same!

VID!

Alright Lupi,

As soon as I get the ram back I will let you know on the VID. Some are using 1.2v to get it to 3.0ghz and up to 1.32 to go 3.5ghz. I hear 1.3v is near the max for the cpu.

How far have you gone in regards to the FSB on the mobo? Because of the locked multiplyer to get to 3.0 -3.33 they are looking at 1700-1800FSB. Can this mobo do that?

I'm new to overlocking so forgive me for my ignorance.

Thanks,
Wes
