Ok, first of all sorry for not replying for a while. I was out of contry.

@squagel: What is your VID for the E2180?

@cmf_risk: Did you clear CMOS?

Just an FYI that the "System Temp" reported in the BIOS is the South Bridge temperature (not North Bridge). I put a small fan over the North and then the South Bridge. "System Temp" only went down when the fan was over the south bridge.

So in reference to my comments on page 5, I can't really do anything about the South bridge temperature besides better case airflow because my video card prevents me from putting an after-market cooler on the South Bridge. It doesn't help that my video card is blowing hot air on it either.

While the EP35-DS3R isn't quite the same deal, I've had success at 400MHz FSB, with tRD = 7. Memory at 2.1V, 4-4-4-12 1:1. Q9450 @3.2GHz (8x multi).

GMCH +0.2V, FSB overvolt 0.0V. Other settings mostly on auto. No fan on Northbridge heatsink, though I'm contemplating it.

Lupiron has been telling me that the FSB overvolt thing is the FSB VTT which is a voltage on the processor, and thus should be kept quite low on 45nm CPUs, except for higher voltage overclocks. I don't really know if he's right or not... I had the FSB Overvolt set at +0.3V, for a higher overclock, but I don't really want to give my CPU 1.4V. Any insight?

Keep FSB Over volt at +.2v and see. I usually haven't needed to go over .2v.

I had a problem where my DS3L wouldn't hold an overclock if you rebooted on purpose (either just pushing the reset button or doing it through windows). I searched the web and there are others that have this problem, but seems only ~10% of the boards have this issue. It wouldn't even hold a 1 MHz overclock.

The solution that worked for me was to save it as a profile in the BIOS before exiting, and when you boot into windows the first time, shut it down completely via windows. I think the issue is that if you don't shut it down at least once, it thinks the overclock wasn't successful and goes back to default. Now I can reboot anytime I want and it holds the overclock.

Just a little FYI for others that might have this problem.

^Indeed, this is a very noted problem. A BIOS fix should be available soon.

I have Ga-p35ds3l NB 1.25V (MCH), SB 1.05, so the +0.3 gmch is safe or not? will it reduce significantly my chip`s(mobo) life?

If you don't go above 55Cfor Northbridge under Prime95 load it should be OK, but I still recommend you put in a chipset fan.

Hi everyone,

Specs:

DS3L REV2
Q6600 G0
2sticks of matched DDR2 800 each 1gb
Antec Earthwatts 500
Zalman 9500

Had this board a while and have experienced very temperamental overclocking.sometimes it will easily overclock to 3.2 and sometimes it will not budge over stock speed of 2.4 (and i mean not at all!).took out previous 2 sticks to leave current 2 and that solved the problem but it has returned.i think i have tried everything and it just won't budge one darned bit.

any help very much appreciated,

tom h

Thanks for the guide.
It answered a lot of basic questions a newbie would have. I have an e2180 on a GB ep35-ds3l. Also, I put in a Zalman 9700 LED cooler. The p35s were not available at the moment.

Has any1 had success in oc-ing this chip on this board? Around 3 ghz?

The guide is specific yet I do not understand the concepts pf trd value, SPD, memory frequency. Would anyone help?

Thanks.

For RAM timing etc, use Google to see what they are. I have 3.2Ghx on my E2180. I have worked with the EP35-DS3L and has gotten 3.1Ghz on a E2160.

I'm running my Q6600@3GHz on stock voltages. I have to increase Vcore to get it stable at 3.2GHz

Hello All:

I want to OC my e2180 on a ep35-ds3l. Have dl-ed CPU-Z, speed fan and coretemp. Also prime95. I have a few questions 2 ask:

1> Where do I find the BIOS version? On the GB website, ep35-ds3l only has upto F5 version. Is it advisable 2 upgrade to F5?

2> Use Q-Flash to do it ? There is an option in the MB for Q-flash. Is it safe?

3> How long do I need to run Prime95?

4> Tried doing Ctrl + F1; but did not get additional settings.

5> Can any1 give screenies of BIOS with e2180 + ep35-ds3l?

Thanks.

1. Check CPUZ under "Motherboard".

2. Yes, Q-Flash is safe.

3. At least 8hts of Small FFT.

4. You need to do it in the main screen.

5. The BIOS image should be the same as the one in the guide.

Also don't install DES.

Thanks.

1) No I meant a BIOS SHOT after a successful OC-ing has been done. The voltage settings would act as a guide.

2) Also, when i did the build, I had installed DES without knowing. But uninstalled it. It has to be disabled frm the MB? Is there an option?

3) will flash BIOS and let u guys know how it went.
OK - TRIED FLASHING THE BIOS THRU Q-FLASH - BUT THE UTILITY ONLY LOOKS FOR A FLOPPY DRIVE AND I HAVE NONE ON THIS BUILD. ANY OTHER WAYS? CAN I NOT DO IT FRM WIN XP?

NEVER DO BIOS FLASHING THROUGH WINDOWS

Here's what I do:
download the BIOS ROM file to a completely empty flash drive formated in FAT32(it has to be FAT; NTFS won't work). Change the the boot order to the flash drive. save exit and then do Q-Flash.

The pic of the BIOS I have in the guide are the voltages that I am running at on the E2180. What is your VID?

Ok I got the BIOS flashed to F5.

This is also for others who may be facing similar problems with the ep35-ds3l. The MB CD has a utility called @BIOS that can update BIOS over the net safely.
I used that. The bios is at F5 now. Yay!

The cpu vcore is at 1.32500v for stock speeds of 2ghz. I have kingston 800mhz ddr2 ram and a corsair 450w psu.
