Everyone on the forum is granted points and a "forum level."
Your points score will progress based on your activity on the forum. It is independent from the post counter, and will increase more when you perform specific forum actions.
For example, opening a new thread of the "Question" type will grant you more points than opening a new "Discussion"-type thread. Moreover, selecting a "best answer" in your thread, or being selected as the "best answer" in someone else's thread, will give you even more points. Your score will thus reflect not only your contributions, but also how useful they have been.
This is the first step on the path to a new entertaining and rewarding system where the best contributors will be granted "badges."
The counts (or levels) may change over time. We will probably need to adjust the points associated to each activity and the score required for each level. Your usage of the system will be our best reference to optimize these values.
The levels have been set as follows :
less than 150 Tom's Wannabe 150-499 Tom's Newbie 500-1,499 Tom's Scout 1,500-4,999 Tom's Regular 5,000-14,999 Tom's Addict 15,000-49,999 Tom's Veteran 50,000-149,999 Tom's Resident 150,000 and more Tom's Master
And points are granted as follows :
Account creation: 50 Account validation: 50 "Question"-type thread opening: 15 "Discussion" or "Poll"-type thread opening: 10 Answering a thread or commenting a news article: 4 Selecting a "best answer" : 25 Being selected as the "best answer" : 40
*Please note!* Trying to fool the system by publishing numerous threads or answers will not work. Any moderation action applied to an account will translate into score penalty.
*Score updates: your score is not updated immediately*. You will need to wait for a moment (24 hours maximum) before seeing your actions reflected in your score.
*Registered users:* we did not want everyone to start "again" at zero, and wanted new visitors to be able to spot easily the most experimented forum users, so we attributed to all existing users a score that is basically a percentage of their number of messages.
I hope that this system will renew your interest for this forum and allow you to have even more fun using it.

You are about to answer a thread that has been inactive for more than 6 months. If you still wish to proceed, please ensure that your posting is original and does not duplicate or overlap any prior responses to this thread.
