PC build $800~ budget advice old vs new

Current build: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/ShiningTrevor/saved/2qMvK8
Possible new build: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/ShiningTrevor/saved/6vt8dC

So, I built my current build, minus the gpu, about three years ago. I upgraded to the 970 from a radeon 7970 sometime this year. For the most part, I wanted to get a new cpu, but my old motherboard's socket type is a little outdated, so I figure I'd need a new one. While I was at it, I also got some more ram and a new hdd, since I'm about 80% sure mine is about to die. Now, I think I could just put my 970 on this build and just not worry about a new gpu, but I'd like some advice on the matter. If anyone knows a good cpu for that old socket type that would be relatively good, please let me know.

  1. I would not even consider a new build with a FX8350. It would be a downgrade from your Xeon anyway. That move makes no sense.

I don't think you NEED a cpu + motherboard upgrade. If I were you, I would get a ssd, new hdd, and new psu.
