overclocking 60hz 1080p to 75hz safe if monitor by defult is 75hz at lower resolutions?

basicly what the title sais, my monitor is advertised as a 75hz monitor but 75hz is only usuable at certain lower resolutions and I heard that overclocking your monitor is not safe but if mine technicaly already is a 75hz then is it safe?

  1. Overclocking a monitor is as 'safe' as overclocking anything else. You just have to be careful and do it responsibly, but go for it :)

    Why do you want to overclock it? it will make no difference to 1080p video footage, it may make games smoother, but only if you have the option to lock the fps of the game to 75.. what is your GPU?

    i have a 980 ti so i get WAY over 60 fps and ihave fps to burn but i just dont have the money for a new 144hz monitor now so im looking into overclocking what i got

    Do not overclock it, lets say you break it after a month or so, then you said can't afford a 144hz G-Sync monitor to replace it, so you would have to waste money on another normal monitor. You won't even notice that much of a difference from 60hz v-sync to 75hz. Just stick v-sync on all the game that your GPU can handle 60fps at and you should be fine until you save to get a g-sync monitor. Heck, stuff like Total War 2 Attila won't even stay at 60fps without dropping on large city fights. Once you have saved up and gotten a good G-Sync monitor than you will notice a MASSIVE difference to gameplay. Focus on saving up for that.
