Transferring Windows 7 product key?

At some point I'm going to get an ssd to put my OS on, but because my old dual-boot setup is weird I can't create a system image to transfer to the new drive. I'd just like confirmation that transferring my Windows 7 key is as easy as deactivating the key by typing slmgr.vbs /upk into the command prompt with admin privileges and then starting up the computer with only the ssd and disk drive connected. Also, would I even need to deactivate the key or could I just do a reinstall of Windows without deactivating? I'm fairly certain that I'm using a retail of Windows 7 Home Premium if that means anything.

If your going to re-install Windows on to the same system there is no need to de-activate it.

"Transferring" means removing from one computer so that you can install it on a different one. You are not doing that.
