Hey guys, just wanting to get some second opinions on what CPU I will be going with. I've had an Intel i5 3570K in the past BUT my Thermaltake 700W TR2 Bronze decided to end that by blowing, taking my ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Motherboard with it also. Since then I've upgraded to a nice Silverstone Strider 1000W Gold Evolution as I'm most likely going to SLI my Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 OC'd 2GB. Don't get me wrong, I loved the i5 but I'm just looking for a change.

Basically what this will be used for is hardcore gaming, game recording, video rendering and of course, internet browsing. My budget is around the $200AUD price range for a CPU and another $200AUD for a motherboard.

This thread is more about my CPU choice but I won't complain about which motherboard suggestions you throw at me!

My current parts:
Case - CoolerMaster HAF X Case
RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws X (4x4GB DDR3) 1600MHz
CPU Cooler - CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO
SSD - SanDisk Extreme SSD 120GB
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 2TB
Graphics Card - Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 OC 2GB
Sound Card - ASUS Xonar Essence STX
PSU - Silverstone Strider 1000W Gold Evolution

So far I've found the cheapest Intel Xeon E3 1230 V2 to be $239AUD + $12 shipping.

Now onto the AMD FX-8350 Black Edition I've managed to find it for a mere $209AUD with free shipping!

As for the motherboard I have so far chosen the Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 for the AMD option and the Asus P8Z77-V-LE-Plus for the Intel option. Please voice your opinions/concerns over these decisions.

EDIT: The main reason I've chosen those two specific motherboards is the fact they've both got an Anti-Surge feature on them.

Make sure the memory is on QVL for that MB Asus can be very fussy over different memory. I used the CM Hyper 212 EVO to overclock a AMD Phenom II X4 980 to 4.49Ghz ... great choice:

Asus MB has excellent on board sound... unless this is for a recording studio would skip sound card.
Love my SSD OCZ Vertex 3 120G have a Vertex 4 256G that's faster will move over when I have time.
Windows 7 Home Premium EXP all 7.6, SSD @ 7.8 not bad for AMD X4 and a VisionTek 7750 card, Patriot ddr2 8500 memory. Plays BF3 great in Medium settings 1080P.
Great choices should make a great gaming rig.

Thanks for the reply!
Thanks for the heads up with the memory, I'll have to look into that! I've already got the Sound Card (I do love my sound) so there's no need to skip on that..

Board recommendations:

Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
Asus Crosshair V Formula Z 990FX
ASRock 990FX extreme3 or extreme9
Gigabyte 990FX ud3

On the RAM, if you have the money, I would go 1866 MHz DDR3 over 1600, your AMD processor will LOVE the extra bandwidth...and it's not much more money over the 16 GB you've picked. G.Skill is a good brand for that.

Thanks for the motherboard recommendations , I'll have to check them out tomorrow. As for the RAM I already own the G.Skill. The part list I've got up there are my current parts that survived the PSU incident.. That being said, new RAM isn't a need.

Ok, then use what you have, 1600 MHz is fine, but if you were going to buy RAM anyway 1866 MHz isn't a lot more money
