im curious if i need a hd5xxx series card for the setup i want to run. i want a dual 21" monitor setup with an hdmi cable running into the next room over onto my 40" lcd TV. my current card is an IGP hd3300 and it doesnt have the horsepower i want.

will something like a hd4850 run my two monitors and be able to play a movie in the next room? or would i need to have the newer dx11 eyefinity card?

That's only if it's the Digital part of the DVI connection, if using a VGA adapter and the analogue path/RAMDACs, then the TMDS for the HDMI should still remain unused and accessible.

But for dual DVI-D, then you'd be stuck with display-port.

Any graphics card out there will be able to support 2 monitors by defalt. the hd 5000 series will run 3. However the 3rd must be run on DisplayPort, if not you will need to buy an ~$100 active DisplayPort to DVI/HDMI addapter.

You could use that hd4850 but you can only be using 2 screens at any given time. Alternatively if your motherboard has two x16 pcie slots you could get two say hd4000 series cards if you find them cheaper than one 5000 card, that would give you 4 outputs and you could crossfire them for your games when not watching movies on the tv.

Most go into sleep mode which presumably saves power and the printer starts more quickly than if it runs through the test routines usual when first powering up. I always turn my printer off after use -- but then I don't do much printing.
