Forum Home Cinema Equipment : Older Systems 2-Audio/Video sources sharing one set of speakers

Hello,
I have a 5.1 A/V receiver and a set of front and center speakers. Then I just got a new HDTV and DVD Player. DVD player has 7.1 speaker outputs.
Can my A/V Receiver and DVD Player share the same set of speakers given only one of them is "turned on" at one time?

So you are trying to wire the speakers to two different sources at the same time?

I would advise against that. You should wire the speakers to the Reciever and connect both the DVD player and the TV to the reciever as well. With the Receiver you can change the sound and video source at any time.
