Hey, i've got a 32" widescreen TV, that is High Def up to 1080i.

I am interested in purchasing an upconverting DVD player, however, many of the players state that you must use an HDMI output to use the upconverting feature, even though the players have Component out.

Are there any players that will up convert to 1080i through component/S-VIDEO outputs? Would I be able to tell a difference between a normal DVD and one played through the up converting DVD player?

Thanks!

You need HDMI to upconvert. Newer movies look noticeably better upconverted, but older ones generally don't. Depends on the transfer to DVD. My Toshiba HD DVD player upconverts noticeably better than my 8 month old Panasonic did.
