Certainly not a Dimension 3000 board, which has different (and more standard)
front panel connectors. Possibly one of the Dell 4000-series boards has front
panel connectors that would match up. Dell Optiplex, Precision 300-series and
Diemnsion 8000-series motherboards use a mounting plate, which rules them out
for easy replacement in a Dimension 2400 chassis.

Anything else requires fairly major surgery on all the wiring: external rear fan
connector, USB front panel connector, and front panel wiring harness (on-off
switch, power LED, hard drive LED)... Ben Myers

Get a new computer case and PSU, then get any board that supports the
OLD P4 type CPU, and you can reuse the CD-ROM and Floppy and Memory.

That's pretty much what i implied in my response. He can reuse the hard drive,
too, but not the Windows COA (without violating Microsoft's licensing
agreement).

Even installing a Dell 4000-series board has its risks... Ben Myers

I believe this has been answered before but don't remember (and I'm
interested). Is it the 4600 or 4700 motherboard that fits?

The 4600.

The 4700 would require numerous subsequent changes, not the least of which
are the CPU, RAM, and power supply. And that's just for starters.
