DC Comics sent over a little linkage to an article appearing on The New York Daily News website. Apparently the comics publisher is resurrecting the long-dead hero in red and yellow, The Flash. But The Flash isn't dead, right? Right. Currently Wally West dons the Flash mantle and is a member of the Justice League.
However it's Barry Allen who is making a surprise return, the second character to portray the hero. He first appeared in Showcase #4 back in 1956 and rejuvenated the industry when war and western comics ruled the newsstands. But DC Comics pulled the plug on the character in 1985, incinerating the character in fact although he did manage to save the entire universe (see Crisis on Infinite Earths) before his flashy demise.
A tragic but heroic ending.
Now twenty years later, the almost-faster-than-light Barry Allen now appears in the last panel of DC Universe: Zero. Will this be just a flash in the pan, or the return of an icon?
