My acer laptop has shut down and is asking to insert recovery cd 3 which I do not have. any suggestions. Have photos of my Border Collie who died last week.

You will need to recover your pictures and reinstall windows
or get a windows install disc boot from it and try to do a system repair

try contacting acer about a replacement cd if the unit isnt to old................and sorry for your loss,i know how hard it can be when a much loved pet passes away...
