Hello,
when i turn on my computer i get disc error message and when you press a key you get the same message please heeeeelllpppp

Hello eveie;

That usually means your hard disk has some problems. Or might have died.
Can you hear or feel your HDD spinning? Making any unusual noises?
Make and model of your laptop? Age?

Hello,

Yes you can hear something rattling away but its been rattling for ages and has worked up till now can i do anything else?

its about 4 years old not had much use though its an acer 2420?

I do have a windows xp disc can i try to install it on to this laptop again ???

OK, we can try something else first. We're not sure if that hard disk is working or not.

See if you can get into the Acer eRecovery Management. Use Alt + F10 at power on.

got into acer recovery with power on and its doing something

OK, choose the Restore Button which should take you to the restore / recovery page.

And you'll want to try a Restore from factory default image.

does the acer thing take a while? time left 2min etc

I have no idea how long it will take. It won't be quick - unless it fails because the hard disk is bad.

Probably hours instead of days? Maybe days if you need to order a new part.
You don't even know right now if it can be fixed because the hard drive might be bad.
It will take - - what it takes.

im doing acer recovery management and the programme has been dunning now for (elapsed time 22 mins time left 32 mins) running 5-10 mins ?
