Barebones kit: http://rjtech.com/shop/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=29846 this is the barebones kit, add the $45 for wireless card = $924.00

SSD: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/SSDEX6G240/ this is the hard drive = $369.00

CPU: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/SSDEX6G240/ this is the CPU that would fit in this barebones = $423.89

Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139482 Kingston memory for the beast = $39.99

OS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116992 Wish the customer would be comfortable with Ubuntu or Mac OS, but it seems Windows wins the simple vote of simple people = $139.99 Plus, BONUS, comes with Parallel 6 which I would use for my Mac.

Total: $1,896.87

Is there anything I am forgetting? The customer is a college student who is basically looking for something to handle most multitasking abilities, a tad bit of gaming when wanted, not that much storage space because of an external hard drive, but still enough that he could disconnect and have everything important (and get it at light speed), and (unfortunately) wants to run Windows 7. First experience building a laptop with a barebones, so there very well might be a better one out there. Comments and critiques greatly appreciated: no one gets anywhere without being corrected once in awhile!

The service and repair is the part that scares me in a home-built laptop!

That's a lot of money for some outdated tech/parts.

For a bit less than the barebones build - a custom gaming laptop build: ASUS G53SX ~1570$
Core i7-2670QM 2.2Ghz CPU, 8GB RAM, 256GB Samsung 830 SSD, 15.6" 1920x1080 LCD w/ GTX 560M graphics.
Includes 2 Year Warranty plus 1 Year accidental damage coverage.

I would go with WR2's opt. But if you still going your original route, wireless is a must have for a laptop.
