1. What is your budget?

Closer to $500 than 1000.

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?

Bigger is better

3. What screen resolution do you want?

At least 1280x

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?

Portable, I'll be lugging it from home to work 3 days a week.

5. How much battery life do you need?

At least 2 hours

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?

I want to play Skyrim at medium with decent frames (but the higher settings the better) and something that will play newer games in 2-3 years on low at least.

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)

I'll just be watching movies and doing homework with it.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?

300+

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.

Newegg.com but open to any site with good reviews.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?

3+ years if only to browse the web

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?

DVD rom but anything else is nice.

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.

I have an Acer aspire one that freezes constantly just going to youtube, I'd rather not EVER buy from them again.

13. What country do you live in?

USA

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.

I'll be working 12 hour night shifts and need something to keep me occupied. I need something that can handle playing upwards of 12 hours straight.

This one would let you max skyrim at 720p

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6834220796 not too shabby at $680, and if memory serves this laptop should support 2 hard drives, so you could upgrade w/ a SSD later and keep the 500 as a storage drive.

At around $500 the ASUS A53 Series A53TA-XN1 is probably the best you can get... at least at Newegg.

A4-3300M (1.9GHz) CPU - Not exactly as powerful as a Core i3 even at the same clock speed.

Radeon HD 6650M GPU - More powerful than any GPU you can get with a Core i3-2310m CPU.

Skyrim is actually one of those games where performance depends on both CPU and GPU.

Skyrim is barely adequate on a $499 A8-3500 laptop

(my $499/on-sale Gateway NV55S05u A8-3500 6GB/640GB HD
laptop plays Skyrim at 20 fps at the laptop's native res (1366x768)
with medium effects (8 samples in AA/Anis, High in Texture, Shadow,
Decal, Distance, Medium in Radial and FXAA off).
