So I just purchased an Acer 5560-SB613 from Amazon 2 weeks ago.

So far the laptop is nothing what I expected it. Yes, it's fast for basic crappy every day things... but the fact that it struggles to play WoW on LOW in Full Screen Windowed mode.... That is a problem.

So far, I haven't seen the laptop switch over to Turbo Core regardless of what I throw at it. There is also no apparent way to activate it.

So at this time, I'm debating returning it to Amazon ($550) and purchasing a different laptop.

My budget is really $699

Any suggestions?

I'm a teacher and I play BF3 / WoW / Thinking about getting into SWTOR.

The cheaper/more portable and still able to play WoW/SWTOR decently is mostly what I am looking for.

Graphics performance is dependent on your video card not necessarily your CPU speed although the faster the better in most cases. Also, you mention trying to run a game in full screen windowed. Generally it is a bad idea to run a game in full screen windowed mode as you often don't get the full performance of your graphics that way. You still have the OS GUI layer in the way. You need to try and run the game in full screen non-window mode. If this still makes no difference then it is just the graphics card on the machine that is to lowly to handle the graphics you would like to have.

Okay; I read another review by someone who has the same laptop and he was able to run WoW on HIGH with no issues.

Not sure why I can't pull that off.

Wow is cpu dependent so that is a potential problem. Im on my phone now so ill look up the specs later but i suspect that since you paid so little it has a so so cpu. You really should spend more.

If someone else has the same machine and can run your same game at high well you should also. This may be a stupid question, do you have your laptop plugged in when you run your game? If it is on battery your performance will be a fraction of what it should be as the laptop will automatically throttle back both your CPU and GPU and kill your performance. That may seem obvious but I have seen people try to game on battery, that doesn't work.

Point is, I can see people playing the much more demanding Skyrim on it, and people playing WoW on the weaker A6, so why isn't yours holding up?

Turbo core doesn't kick in unless thermal conditions allow for it, if your laptop is constantly hot then it'd never kick in. I have seen vids of people tweaking the setting for turbo and idle cores using K10 stat if it's really the problem, but it should be kicking in when the laptop is cool, so if it isn't, there's an issue.

You may also want to try updating drivers. Keep in mind as well that MMOs are also dependent on server connection for speed and even the best setups can lag in crowded situations. The A8 -should- be running WoW fine.

Your laptop has the 6620G and you would need something more in the 6750m or higher range. BF3 on the 6620 is around 10~30fps which is unplayable even at best with turbo core.

This one is amazing with the 6850m at only $650.

If the iGPU is in use there is no thermal headroom for TurboCore to operate.

Explains this "Full Screen Windowed mode". Did you mean both full screen mode and windowed mode?

Right. What it means is that the game is in a window, but still fullscreen. Opposed to strictly being set to fullscreen.
