Forum Laptops & Notebooks : General Discussion Barebones notebook for I7-720QM CPU

I am looking for a notebook to put a I7-720QM cpu into.

I don't mind buying a used notebook with a low end processor that i can upgrade or a barebones kit.

can anyone help me find the lowest cost notebook i can put this CPU into?

Hello alohascott;

15.6" LED Barebone Notebook - Intel HM57 Express Chipset $346

If you're looking for other barebones kits or used models you want:
Mobile HM55 Express
Mobile HM57 Express
Mobile PM55 Express
Mobile QM57 Express

thanks
that is great info.
are there any major difference between those chipsets?

I don't think there's anything to be concerned about.
You're probably very limited in finding any of the chipsets.

well the hardest thing is finding any info on what is in each laptop.
If i see a used core i3 laptop (then i only need to buy chip not memory or hard drive)
I do not know if its possible to upgrade to i7
and i do not know how to find that info.

with a barebones notebook it would include everything except for the hard drive chip and memory?

would all of these chipsets be ddr3 or would some be ddr2?

also I have seen more then one notebook that said only for i3 / i5
why is that and how can i tell if that is the case for a notebook i might be looking at?

something like this

You go by socket type to choose your motherboard. The i7 720qm is socket PGA988.
