Tom,

How can I tell if the DVD RW drive in my 6 year old Gateway desktop is SATA or IDE? -I need to replace the drive...and need to know what to buy.

open up your case.

is the data connection a big ribbon cable? if yes then its ide.

is the data connection a small 1/4" flat cable? if yes then its sata.

Ok thanks, I thought so, but need to confirm. I had to go to a recycled computer place to get one cause they (ide) are getting harder for find. Replacement drive is working fine now...
