OK i have my eyes on two budget printers.
The EPSON Stylus SX235W and the Canon PIXMA MP280. I have read reviews on them and both seem to be very nice. But i am confused. The EPSON is a third more expensive then the canon but the only thing its better at is the printing resolution which is 5760 x 1440 (as opposed to Canon's 4800 x 1400). The Canon has 'no border' option which i cant find anywhere in the EPSON's specs. The Canon is faster. I am told the Canon's cartridges are cheaper. And finaly the Canon supports MUCH heaver paper (as far as i can tell). It has a max of 300g paper and the Epson has 90g (does this mean that it can print on thicker paper like playing card style cardboard or business cards and the Epson can't?)
Like i said the higher resolution (well that and wi fi which i couldnt care less about) is the only thing the epson has in its aresnal, but it is still more expensive. Am i missing something here? I also wanna know about the no border option. Do manufacturers list that as a special option? Canon does in the manual of the PIXMA. Epson doesnt say anything bout it.

Has anyone had any experience with one of these printers or both? Who would you recommend? I will be printing both text and color images so the quality of the color prints is important.

Spanks in advance.

Canon..
Epson has inherent problems with their print heads.
all inks are expensive, roughly 2 shot glasses of ink, cost you $27.

thats news to me, i service both and can tell you that not one or the other has more issues with the head. However the epson head is not user replaceable, but for the $$$ you would just replace the machine for such a low value machine. Ink is about the same cost between the two. the epson can print borderless on coated papers. The epson would probably give a better quality photo print, they generally do.

I prefer Canon for reliability and durability any day, HP are a pretty good choice to, check out if you can refill the Epsom print cartridge's I know you can with HP and canon (it saves on buying OEM replacement cartridges all the time
