P4 Prescott temperatures

My P4 is running at a low load temp of about 55C, this seems a bit high to me? Does anybody know the typical low load temperature of a P4 prescott? How much is it supposed to go up under heavy loads (havent tested that yet).

Thanks

  1. 55c is fairly normal for the new prescotts. (the old ones were hotter) You can expect your chip to reach 70c under full load.
The new steppings were designed to handle temps in excess of 80c, so dont worry too soon.
  2. It is not fairly normal, I have a Prescott and it runs 43c at idle.

You should use a case that Intel recommends for 90nm processors.

  3. His 55C is at low load, so his idle is probably around the same as yours.
