I bought recenlty a Epson Expression 10000XL from Compbargains.com
I received and open it. I have scanning with usb connection. However I wanted to know if fire wire will help scan in better quality than USb. I need to get details in microfilms can it help me.

Quality should be exactly the same, and FireWire should be just a bit faster. Realistically, I doubt you'd notice a difference though.

I've used lots of USB devices and they have usually been reliable. My experience of external Firewire DVD Writer disappearing periodically was explained by an IT Manager friend as being due to Firewire having a lower "polling rate" than USB.

Another friend stated that you should leave Firewire devices connected whether in use or not -- which slightly defeated the advantage of being able to move an external writer from one computer another as needed.

Though the upside is faster real-world speeds, Firewire seemed more trouble than it was worth and I haven't used it since.
