I am resubmitting this question as my original one was moved and I can't find it to see if anyone has offered advice, so appologies to anyone who has tried to help.
We are looking to buy a new desktop system as the one we have appears to be running out of grunt and is 4 years old.
Our current system is: Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 GHZ
Nvidia NX8800GT
4 gig RAM
Windows Vista (32 bit)
The computer is used almost constantly; for web browsing, playing 3D games, watching TV, playing our music, and detailed photo editing using Corel Paintshop Pro X4.
We are starting to get crashes and freezes, especially when using Corel, so we thought a new system was called for, so we are open to sugestions as money is tight and we can't afford to just go out and buy a high end system. We also like to get information from people who know more about the technology before we make these sort of decisions and part with our cash.
Thank you Combat Wombat for taking the time to reply to my question about a new system. Your advice sounds good and we probably need to explore upgrading to Windows 7 before taking the plunge on a new system.
Honeyclarck there are alternatives to up grading and if you are on a tight budget they really need exploring first,
Best to back up any files before you begin just in case.
You may need to defrag your drive. and run windows cleaner, also check tour temp file if it is getting large it is best to delete the contents of the file.
Do you have a anti virus and anti Malware software on your PC. if not you can download AVG free version Anti virus software, and Spybot search and destroy Spyware and Malware.
Both the AVG and The Spybot need to be up graded online from time to time on line.
OK now that is done hows the system running, a bit better but could be improved them I suggest that you download a program called CCleaner from http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner (free software) install and run, This really cleaned up my system the most from the Registry to all my files and fixed any missing or corrupt files.
Your system sounds great and if me I would look at cleaning it up and debugging it first before upgrading,
